#GIRLWITHABOOK is a social media project that I began with a friend when we found out about the horrifying attack on Malala Yousafzai in October 2012. We wanted to do something in response, so we decided to set up a Facebook page, Twitter account, and Pinterest board, and we asked our friends and family to send us pictures of themselves holding a book or a sign that says, “I stand with Malala.” We wanted to show solidarity with Malala and every girl fighting to get an education.
